2010-2011 TARGET GRANT FIELD TRIP PHOTO GALLERY AND VIRTUAL FT

Page history last edited by MARICELA 12 years, 3 months ago

THE STORY

During the month of November of the 2010-2011 school year, Ms. M. Ramirez applied for a Target Field Trip Grant.

Since launching the program in 2007, Target has awarded $9.76 million in grants—providing 1.2 million students in all 50 states with the opportunity to enhance their studies in the arts, math, science and social studies.

As part of the program, each Target store awards three Target Field Trip Grants to K—12 schools nationwide—enabling one in 25 schools throughout the U.S. to send a classroom on a field trip. Each grant is valued up to $700.

Ms. Ramirez was notified during the month of December 2010 that her field trip proposal consisting of a visit to Quinta Mazatlan Nature Center, lunch at Furr's Cafeteria and the International Museum of Art and Science, all located in McAllen, Tx had been accepted and she would be one of the grant recipients.

Twenty of Ms. Ramirez's students were invited to participate and were taken on the field trip during May of 2011.

CREATING  VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS

Since Ms. Ramirez was required to learn to use and then introduce a web 2.0 tool to her classmates for her MTT courses, she created a virtual field trip using a web 2.0 tool called MAPWING.  Once she created and presented her virtual field trip to her classmates, she didn't stop there.   She taught her students how to create their own virtual field trip.
